"I know a lot about magic, darlin'. I know who likes black magic and who does only good magic." That was a truth stretch. He only knew when someone killed, thanks to the visions. When close to a person who used magic, he could usually detect what kind they'd practiced most recently. From her, though, he couldn't tell anything, probably because his balls were in a wad.
"I think you like the hint of badness that comes from being a called a witch." He waited, hoping she'd fill him in on how much badness was black magic and how much was sexy wickedness. The latter he could handle and would be a willing participant. Her using evil magic, maybe not a death ritual yet, but still, the darker side of magic, he didn't want to hear.
"So, you're the Santa Claus of the magic world with a naughty-and- nice list?"
"This Santa kills those on the naughty list and doesn't bring gifts to those who behave. Which list do you think you're on?"
She glared, but didn't answer. "You kill people like necromancers? They always use death energy for power."
He wanted to hit his head on the steering wheel. Would she just answer the question? "Sometimes. They don't always need a death ritual, though."
"I guess it makes sense there'd be someone out there designated to keep this in check. I haven't run across very many truly evil magical people. Sounds like a dangerous job. How do you find them?"
He shrugged.
"Why am I not on your kill list if you think I'm a bad witch?"
His heart hammered his ribs to the point of pain. Best to just throw it out there. "Do you and the other six Pleiades witches do evil things that put people at risk or kill people?"
She frowned and shook her head. "We try not to get noticed. Hurting people would definitely get us noticed. However, one of us is an ex- MI6 agent who still goes after the lowest of the low in society. Guess that counts."
She hadn't said she wouldn't do it at some point in the future, but at least she hadn't misused magic yet. His shoulder muscles loosened. "I'm sure you could be a wicked witch..."
Her cheeks flushed and she muttered, "Wouldn't you like to know."
Yeah, he would.

Shae inhaled deeply, counted to ten, and prayed a madman hadn't abducted her.
He remained hunkered down in front of her, eyes cool, his powerful forearms braced on his muscular, leather-clad thighs. Small scars marred his tanned fingers he kept loosely clasped in front of him. He wore a wide, corded leather band on one thick wrist and several narrow ones on his other. His black t-shirt stretched across his broad shoulders like a second skin, the short sleeves revealing bulging biceps. On his left one, he sported a sword-like tattoo made up of a myriad of intricate designs. It was unusual, like nothing she'd ever seen.
With those clothes and his long, ropey hair, he dressed like an extra from a movie shoot or something.
"You can't keep me here," she tried to reason with him. "You have to let me go. My uncle will be frantic and calling the cops by now."
"Not until you answer my questions. Those dead men?"
She scowled, all thoughts of being calm and rational flying out the window. He'd accosted her outside the club, kidnapped her, and now he expected her to answer his damn questions? "Just what the hell are you talking about? What dead men?"
Sure, he was infuriatingly good-looking, but then so was Ted Bundy.
At the thought of the serial killer who'd charmed and murdered several college girls, Shae sprang to her feet and bulleted for the door. He grabbed her around the waist. Crap, she'd forgotten how fast he could move.

"Try. When you're ready to talk, scream. Maybe I'll hear you, maybe I won't." His eyes like flint, he stalked out, shutting the door quietly behind him, only to stride back inside. He crossed to the far end of the room, grabbed all the swords from the stand there, and walked out again. Leaving behind a small fridge. Right then, she wanted to fling the appliance at his arrogant head. Except he looked like he could break her neck with just one hand.
She had to get out of here before he came back.

His low, husky voice caressed her ears, its softness belying strength and control rather than weakness. "If all runners were as beautiful as you, I'd be willing to be the path more often."
She barely kept from rolling her eyes. Expose a little cleavage or the hint of a curvy figure and men were all the same, the sight of a woman's face being totally unnecessary to judge beauty. Even had she not been wearing the mask, she knew there was nothing beautiful about her. Too tall and mouthy, she preferred dressing like a Diomerean nobleman rather than the noblewoman she was. Never mind the scar that bisected the left side of her face.
"Thank you, m'lord," she said, tone dry. She smiled and batted her lashes up at him.
His low chuckle sent a shiver down her spine as he leaned toward her until his breath tickled her ear. "Acting the coy miss isn't one of your gifts," he said, his lips grazing her ear, causing an arrow of desire to arc through her body.
She leaned up on her toes, their cheeks only a breath apart, and whispered back. "Insincere flattery is obviously one of yours."
She caressed his chest, unable to resist the swell of muscle under her palms as she pulled away, chin lifted. Striking amber irises circled in a black outer ring and thick black lashes peeked from the eyes of the mask. Her mind went blank as desire rolled through her, taking her breath. A ripple rolled through the power inside her, like this man had reached in and touched a finger to the still surface of her a'mi. Her smile slipped. You're acting like Father. Her stomach flipped, threatening to eject her morning meal. She jerked her hands from his chest as if she'd been burned.
He trapped her gaze in his. "Is it not said that flattery makes friends and truth makes enemies?"
Nadia scowled and shoved her a'mi deep.
"Then I'd rather be enemies." She stepped back and held her hand out in the traditional greeting of her people, rather than the shoulder clasping Thunoans used. His smoldering gaze held a challenge as he slid his palm against hers. His thumb caressed the back of her hand, making her shiver, before he finally pulled his hand back toward his chest, the parchment she'd slipped him tucked between his fingers. The greeting ended with their palms over their hearts. Nadia ignored the heat pooling in her stomach. "The gods keep you, m'lord."
"Asha's blessing on you, lady."
She told herself she clenched her fist because the greeting demanded it, not to hold on to the feel of his skin against hers.

Hard Proof (Notus Motorcycle Club #1) by Debra Kayn

This is the first time I've read a book written by Debra Kayn, her writing is really good, loved the story line, and the character development for future books has me intrigued to want to read the next book in this series.

First I will say it’s a bit different from the other Motorcycle Club books I've read, but only because their club consists of 5 close friends who grew up together and formed the Notus Motorcycle Club. The other big difference is this Club works on missing person case's and are called in by police if they need help.

The story line was exciting, kept me turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next, I like that there was some mystery and suspense involved in the story line. Rather than bad boy meets the nice girl romance novel. But in saying that the romance portion of the story was great, I enjoyed Clara and Wayne's story even if it had some deceit in it.

I definitely can't wait to read more in this series, I am hoping Grace finds some exciting romance with one of the other club members.

I have rated Hard Proof, 4 stars and would highly recommend anyone to pick up/download a copy for yourself.
