Across The Line

When Councilor Allerton sends Stanzie to investigate a territory dispute between tiny pack Stony Fell and the British branch of much larger Mac Tire, it seems routine until someone sets a bear trap. A young Stony Fell man pays with the loss of his leg and now it’s up to Stanzie and Murphy to figure out who set the trap–and why–before more members of the packs are maimed.

Add a pair of star-crossed lovers, one love triangle, a grief-stricken bond mate with jealousy issues, and bad blood all around and the resultant twisted hell brew reveals the darker side of inter-pack politics that could prove too difficult–and dangerous–for even Stanzie to untangle.

My Review

Across the Line by Amy Lee Burgess
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was given a copy of this book for a honest review, thank you Amy.

Across the Line is book 6 in the series Wolf Within by Amy Lee Burgess, I came across this series by accident a while back and fell in love with it. To me when Amy releases a new book I get quite excited it’s like I get to catch up with some old friends. I absolutely love Amy’s writing. All the books in this series are written beautifully, the plots are exciting, and I love all the character she introduces us to. And of course because I am a big romance junkie I love the romance between the two main characters.

But don’t jump to any conclusion this series is not all about romance, there is suspense, adventure, mystery, humour and much more to this series. Oh did I mention my second favorite kind of book is about wolfs. (I want to be one)!

Across the Line is a fantastic read, the plot and character description are written perfectly, this is a book I never once stopped reading except to fill my coffee cup and do a few other things.

We meet up with Stanzie who is watching her mate and his sister struggle with the death of their best friend and mate. Stanzie is strong and is doing everything she can to help them both get through these dark days. Besides this going on Stanzie has some of her own internal struggles and doesn’t have anyone right now to confide in.

Murphy, Stanzie mate is grieving right now for the loss of his best friend, he has his own past and history that makes him appear quiet and dark at times, but you love him as you get to know him. Murphy loves Stanzie very much but he doesn’t realize that she is not quite sure of his love for her. This relationship is hard at times for both of them the insecurities show but it makes it all that much better when they finally talk.

Then to make matters worse Councillor Allerton calls her to work, Stanzie has to leave to investigate a dispute between two other packs.

As Stanzie and her new work partner begin to investigate the dispute things go astray as usually, Stanzie knows something is going on and needs to figure it out soon. Stanzie always seems to end up either in situations where she could be harmed or gets herself in some kind of trouble, but you are there eyes glued to the pages to see what she is going to do.

Across the Line is once again one of my favorite books this year, I have rated this a 5 star rating and would highly recommend anyone who loves a fantastic, interesting books to go purchase a copy of this book. And if you haven’t read this series I would highly recommend you go purchase the first 5 books in this series.

Amy Lee Burgess once again has written a best seller in my books and I cannot wait to read more from Stanzie and Murphy.

Guest Post -  Shopping With Stanzie -

Today we’re going to have some fun with Stanzie.  We’re sending her on a shopping spree.  So, yes, there will be shoes.  But we’re going to send her into some other stores too and see what she comes out with.

Hi, Stanzie. We’re standing outside a grocery store and we’re going to send you in to buy something Here’s five dollars.

Stanzie: What the heck can I buy with that? A pack of gum? I don’t like gum.

Just try your best.  Ready, set, go.

Stanzie: At least you’ve got the racing part right. I hate grocery shopping. Murphy usually does the shopping. (Disappears inside. Muttering.)

(Ten minutes later…)

She’s got one item in her hand. A giant bag of candy corn.

Stanzie: We can share this on the way to the shoe store. There’s going to be a shoe store, right? Because I only agreed to shop if I got shoes.

Well, the candy corn gives me a great idea. Look, here’s a Halloween themed store. I’m giving you ten dollars this time. What will you buy?

Stanzie: We’re going up by increments of five dollars every store? Jeez. You do know shoes cost more than twenty bucks, right? I mean, how many damn stores have I got to go into before I work up into a price range I can live with for shoes?  (Disappears inside. Muttering.)

(Fifteen minutes later…)

She’s got one item. A glow in the dark skeleton with moveable arms and legs.

Stanzie: Heh. I’m going to stick this above the door in the bathroom. Scare the hell out of Murphy when he gets up in the middle of the night tonight to pee.  It’ll fall right on his head. He never bothers with lights, but I’ll make sure to leave the light on until I go to bed to charge it up. His sister Fee is coming over tonight for dinner. I can blame this all on her. Fireworks tomorrow morning. I can’t wait. (Gales of sinister laughter.)

Bookstore is next.

Stanzie: Wow. Twenty bucks this time?  Normally I read off my Kindle, but okay, we’ll try this. (Disappears inside. Talking to herself.)

(Thirty minutes later)

Two books a bookmark with a wolf in the snow on it.  Not bad.  The books are Bitten by Kelley Armstrong – I’m sensing a theme here and Moon Called by Patricia Briggs.  Definitely there’s a wolf theme there.
Stanzie: Duh. Shoes now? Please?

Okay. Fine.  Here’s forty dollars.

Stanzie: Forty?  (Huge sigh.)  I’ll see what I can do. Does this have to be tax included?

Forty dollars max. No fair using the change from other purchases. In fact, give it all back to me.
Stanzie: Me and my big mouth. Not that three dollars and sixty seven cents would have made a hell of a difference I suppose. (Hands over the change. Disappears into the store. Grinning.)

(Three hours and twelve minutes later….)

I saw you trying on shoes way out of the price range.

Stanzie: You said buy a pair for forty dollars, you never said I wasn’t allowed to try on shoes that cost more than that.  I was just browsing.

Show me the shoes.

Stanzie: Can I shop or can I shop?  I still have twenty nine cents left!  Now I want to put on these boots, go home and curl up with a book and some candy corn. And stick that skeleton under the light to charge up. This was fun, but I’m outta here.
